Who We Are

Xaraash is a peer-to-peer classifieds marketplace operating in Somalia and the Horn of Africa region. When we say 'Xaraash', 'we', 'us', or 'our', we mean the company operating the Xaraash platform.

Information We Collect

Account information: When you register, we collect your name, email address, phone number, and city.

Listing data: Photos, descriptions, prices, and location information you submit for listings.

Transaction data: Commission payments, promotion purchases, and subscription records.

Usage data: Pages visited, features used, time spent, device type, and operating system. We collect this to improve the Platform.

Communications: Messages sent between buyers and sellers on the Platform.

We do not collect your precise GPS location unless you explicitly choose to add it to a listing.

How We Use Your Information

To operate the Platform: Create and manage your account, display your listings, process payments, and provide customer support.

To keep the Platform safe: Detect fraud, enforce our Terms of Service, and review reported content.

To communicate with you: Send transactional emails (account confirmation, commission reminders), and important service updates. We do not send marketing emails without your consent.

To improve our services: Analyse usage patterns and resolve technical issues.

How We Share Your Information

With other users: Your display name, city, and listings are visible to all users. Your phone number is visible only to users you choose to share it with during a transaction.

With service providers: We use third-party services for hosting (AWS), payment processing (WaafiPay / EVC / eDahab networks), and email delivery. These providers are bound by confidentiality obligations.

Legal obligations: We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of our users.

We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain records for legal or financial compliance (typically 7 years for transaction records).

Listing data you delete is removed immediately from public view; it may remain in encrypted backups for up to 90 days.

Your Rights

Access: You can view and edit most of your personal data directly in the app under Profile → Account.

Deletion: You can request deletion of your account and personal data by emailing support@xaraash.com.

Portability: You can request a copy of your data in machine-readable format by emailing us.

Correction: If any information we hold about you is inaccurate, contact us to correct it.

We will respond to all valid requests within 30 days.

Security

We use industry-standard security measures including HTTPS encryption in transit, bcrypt password hashing, and access-controlled infrastructure.

No system is completely secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately at support@xaraash.com.

Children's Privacy

The Platform is not directed at children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we become aware that we have done so, we will delete that data promptly.

Third-Party Links

Listings may contain links to external websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites and encourage you to review their policies before sharing any personal data.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via email or an in-app notice at least 14 days before they take effect. The 'Last updated' date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
